Proper Watering of New Sod!!
Step 1: Watering Schedule
- Day 1-2: Immediately after installation, water the sod thoroughly. Ensure the soil beneath the sod is moist.
- Days 3-6: Water the sod daily, keeping it consistently moist but not waterlogged.
- Days 7-14: Reduce the frequency to every other day. Continue to monitor moisture levels.
- Week 2 onward: Transition to a weekly watering schedule based on your climate and weather conditions.
Step 2: Watering Techniques
- Use a sprinkler or hose with a gentle spray to avoid damaging the delicate sod.
- Water in the morning to allow time for the grass to dry before nighttime.
- Ensure even coverage, and pay special attention to the edges and seams.
Step 3: Monitoring Moisture
- Check soil moisture regularly by probing with a screwdriver. It should penetrate easily but still feel moist.
- Adjust the watering schedule based on weather conditions. Reduce during rainy periods and increase during dry spells.
Step 4: Frost Prevention
- Late fall brings the risk of frost. Watering during the day can help prevent frost damage by raising the temperature of the sod.
Step 5: Soil Maturity
- After 2-3 weeks, the sod should have rooted into the soil. Gradually transition to a standard lawn watering routine.
